It is a struggle to find a well-fitted T-shirt as a fat babe. I have one T-shirt that has a dope graphic on it. The fit and the material, sucks! Every time I wear it women always ask me “where did you get your t-shirt. I need that!”. I noticed that the majority of the women asking me were a smaller size. I had to tell them “sorry, this shirt does not come in your size” I always walked away from that conversation asking myself the same question. Why not? Why can’t I find a T-shirt that fits well with a dope graphic, that more body sizes can wear?
I started researching clothing lines that carried inclusive sizes. (very few) The more I looked into the fashion industry the more invested I became. The amount of waste and the environmental impact that the fashion industry creates is appalling.
I took sewing classes and a pattern making class so I could understand the process of designing and producing apparel. I needed to understand what the problem was, before I could find a solution. I am working hard with pattern makers to develop 2 patterns per style. To insure a great fit for different body types. (You cannot grade a pattern 10 sizes and expect it to translate into a great fit). Using different fabrics to create the structure of the T-shirt, without losing the softness. This is not just another apparel line. I want to do better, be better and make a difference.
Part of my passion in Root IN apparel to illuminate, as well as give proceeds to youth mentorship programs. Learning our value at a young age, is everything! When we value ourselves we change our world. When we value others, we can change the world. Wearing a dope shirt, at any size, is possible.
Growing our empathy, being wild and free wearing a sustainable T, is possible. My passion is to build a business that brings people together in supporting each other. We are all on our own journeys. I am in-charge of mine. You are in-charge of yours. Let's support each other, not judge each other on our own journeys.
